Update #3: Joe City
Please read this update from the team:
What an incredible day! Over the past few days God has been teaching me an incredible lesson that will, without a doubt, take me quite some time to digest.
Today we traveled south to Joe City and met up with our friends and co-laborers. Upon arrival we played a sort of scavenger hunt around the city just to help get our bearings straight before we get started on the task at hand. A scavenger hunt in rural East Asia, talk about incredible! After that we sat down and shared a meal with our friends which turned out to be a memorable time in more ways than one. Nothing like a big bowl of noodles, fish, and even a bowl of fried crickets for dessert (which everyone tried by the way)!
During this dinner we had an incredibly eye opening conversation. It was impactful to learn that we have brothers and sisters laboring in the fields who need a constant reminder that the “big C” church is involved in the “little c” church.
It’s incredibly easy to get overwhelmed by the task at hand. Especially when you feel as though you’re the only laborer in the field. The size of the fields far outnumber the amount of workers.
Ok so here is a lesson God is teaching me. I’m learning that 2 Corinthians 5:20 really doesn’t have much to do with us. Yes we play a part, but we play a small part in a bigger story that’s not about us in the first place. It’s pretty easy to misunderstand that verse and to believe that it’s up to us to make His appeal in a place like this. However, it’s really all about Him making His own appeal by using us! Suddenly that makes this mission possible!
-For His Glory
-The team will be going out into villages and market towns over the next two days. Pray that “persons of peace” would find them and would seek to meet their needs.
-For divine appointments as they are bold in their witness.
-For health as they adjust to a very different diet.
-For the encouragement of workers who are daily in the field and can feel isolated.
“Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.” 2 Corinthians 5:20
