Update #9: Praise God and Pray
In my last entry posted from in country ( Update #8: Compassion and Challenge) I told of delivering the socks, shoes and jackets for each of the 183 children at the elementary school. That day at the school ended when government officials arrived.
We left L-city the next day and are all now safely home and preparing for Thanksgiving.
Today we received word that the government officials confiscated the clothes left at the school.
What emotions this news prompts! As I try to process this news I’m reminded that 2 days from now is Thanksgiving. On the day before Thanksgiving my family and I share what we are thankful for, looking back at the year since last thanksgiving day. We each prepare a written list and take turns sharing our list with the other family members.
I am thankful for God’s provisions during our trip. For safe travel there and back. For good health while there. For the way we saw the hand of God moving in answer to the prayers for the M-people that we have made during the past 4 years.
I am thankful that God is sovereign.
God is a jealous God. He is jealous for our praise. He will not give His glory to another. He wants to be first in our lives and He wants us to worship and praise Him, and Him alone.
God wants the M-people to know and worship Him more than I ever can. He has allowed these officials to confiscate these clothes. I don’t understand why but I will praise God for who He is, the Great I Am. And I will pray that He will use even this to bring glory to His name.
I Timothy 2:1-4 is a scripture verse God gave me several years ago as I struggled with how to pray regarding the communist government. I submit it to you for your consideration.
As we consider what’s happened we are reminded of how blessed we are to live in a land with our many freedoms, including the freedom to worship the one true God.
UPDATE AS OF 11/27/2013: We received word the day before Thanksgiving that the clothes had been released by the government officials as a local person persuaded them to release them to him. They are not back with the children yet, but God has provided a person of peace to advocate in this circumstance. Thank you for praying with us!
